15 new restaurants (and more) to try this summer in Madison

...Forward Craft and Coffee, a new coffee and craft brew bar, officially opened its doors on June 20 in a former Barriques’ location at the corner of Atwood Avenue and Dunning Street.

The hip, cozy joint serves up a rotating menu of espresso creations and drip coffee from Spring Green coffee roaster Brewhaha as well as local craft brew offerings available starting at 10 a.m.

Forward Craft & Coffee on Atwood to officially open on June 20

Forward Craft & Coffee, a new beer and coffee bar at 2166 Atwood Ave., celebrated its soft opening on June 13, and has been serving customers. Its official opening is Monday, June 20.

Co-owner Dan Podell considers beer and coffee to be closely related; both beer making and coffee roasting are complex skills that can result in a range of flavors. At Forward, he aspires to marry the two in one bar.

Three friends are opening a beer and coffee shop where Barriques Coffee Roasters and Café was on Madison’s East Side.
Forward Craft and Coffee, 2166 Atwood Ave., could open by early June, said Dan Podell, 37, the majority partner, who met Chad Walhood, 38, when the two worked at the campus radio station at UW-Stevens Point 15 years ago.

To start, the coffee will come from Brewhaha Coffee Roasters, a small-batch roaster in Spring Green. The partners are still deciding where to get their bakery items, cheese for cheese boards and meat for charcuterie plates.
