BREWHAHA BROUHAHA Volume 1.10

The 2021 Third Quarter Brouhaha

We can’t believe that Fall is already upon us! The leaves are changing color and falling to the ground faster than we can pick them up. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and you know what that means here at Brewhaha Roasters?

WICKED SNOW DAY is on its way! Wicked Snow Day is our Seasonal Single Origin Coffee from Bali. This Bali Blue Moon Organic bean is named after the hallmark bluish hue of the bean produced from the wet-hulling process called Giling Basah in the Indonesian language.

The following is an excerpt taken from our importers

“The bulk of Bali’s coffee production comes from small family-owned farms where each producer uses a few acres to cultivate coffee along with citrus trees in the volcanic soils of Mount Agung’s Kintamani highlands. They carefully sort their harvested cherries before depulping and fermenting overnight with their own micro-mills. Then the coffee is washed and laid out on patios to shed the excess water from the coffee parchment. Next the coffee takes a detour from the conventional path of processing in other origins, wherein, the coffee parchment is removed while the coffee still has a high moisture content. This wet-hulling process or Giling Basah leaves the coffee bean exposed while drying on patios to a moisture percentage acceptable for export and gives the beans their distinct bluish color. Balinese producers continue to maintain a traditional rural lifestyle organized around a Subak Abian, which is a reference to the ecologically sustainable irrigation systems developed more than 1,000 years ago by Hindu priests who practice Tri Hita Karana (the three sources of prosperity), a philosophy focused on the harmonization between the environment, humans and God. These traditions are followed in coffee cultivation, which means pesticides and synthetic fertilizers are never used.”

This year, due to shipping challenges, Wicked Snow Day (Bali Blue Moon Organic) will be available right before Thanksgiving. Pre-order it now on our website or keep an eye out for it at your local grocery store.

GIVING BACK

Brewhaha Roasters has always been focused on giving back to our community.

We are very busy running four different fundraisers at the same time. The Mineral Point Wrestling team is an annual fundraiser for MP Wrestling but our first time being involved in it. Head Coach Curtis Fielder taught and coached with our very own, Pat Mahoney at River Valley before getting a job in his hometown. Coach Fielder led the Pointers to the 2021 Team State Championship. This is the 12th Team State Championship in school history.

The second fundraiser we are involved with is for the Prairie du Chien music department is running a fundraiser to raise money for their trip to Florida in June 2022. We are proud to be part of this great project and help the Prairie du Chien music department.

The third fundraiser is for Aaron’s IT students at Southwest Tech. They are raising money for a cybersecurity defense competition and a hacking conference in Milwaukee this coming spring. Aaron’s students helped design our Crypto Coffee, which was first sold through their fundraiser back in 2018. You can find it on our website, or even better through one of Aaron’s IT students.

Last but not least is the River Valley Basketball fundraiser. This is the first time we will be involved in this fundraiser as well. Coach Thatcher is working hard to raise funds for the betterment of the basketball program here at River Valley. We are proud to help these programs achieve their goals financially as they pursue excellence.

As winter approaches, we are completing our first season as the coffee sponsor at American Players Theatre. It’s been a learning experience and we have loved being involved in the very unique theatre just outside of Spring Green, Wisconsin. The APT season continues this winter with their production of “The Gift of the Magi” in December.

In the last newsletter we mentioned that we have partnered with Soul Seed Marketing to develop a more effective marketing and brand strategy. We now have a great marketing plan to execute in the future. We are very appreciative of the work we’ve done with Soul Seed. New Places You Can Find Us We are proud to announce that we have another cafe using our great coffee. We have been approached by two different cafes that would like to use and sell our products. A new coffee shop called 1855 Coffee House that will be opening up at the beginning of next year, 2022. This coffee shop will be in downtown Mazomanie, Wisconsin. We recently met with Michelle VanSchyndel for a tasting and was she was very impressed and looking forward to serving our coffee. The other shop that is currently selling our coffee is Icky Sticky in Mount Horeb. Jessica, the owner of the store, approached us and is very excited about selling our 12 ounce whole bean bags in their new 1225 Springdale Street, Mount Horeb, Wisconsin location.

As always, we are very appreciative for all of you! We would never be where we are today without all of our coffee lovers, so THANK YOU!
