The Mocha Java blend is the world's oldest blend of coffee. Mocha Java is a blend of Mocha beans from Yemen and Java beans from Indonesia. It all began around the 17th century when the European merchant ships started trading in Indonesia - picking up the coffee beans from the island of Java. On their way home, a popular port to stop was the Yemen city of Mocha, where they picked up more coffee beans. On the trip back home, the coffee beans would mix in the bottom of the ships, creating a "blend" of Indonesian and African arabica coffee beans.
This creates a contrasting flavor combination of coffee. You have the bright and fruity African beans plus the earthy, rich Indonesian beans. Brewhaha Roasters mixes a dark roasted Sumatran bean with a medium roasted Ethiopian bean. This delivers a nice sweetness and body to the cup as well as some bittersweet chocolate flavor notes and roasted nut, earthy undertones.
